SUMMARY:Cathedral | Gary Innes and Ewen Henderson Concert
DESCRIPTION:From their earliest days playing at dances and weddings throughout the Highlands\, to performing all across the globe with Mànran\, Gary and Ewen have become leading figures in the Scottish traditional music scene. Their duo performances have taken them to corners as far-flung as Kazakhstan and Shanghai\, not to mention once touring the entire West Coast of the United States in a convertible Mustang… \nIndeed\, it is from these very adventures – plus the musical heritage of their Lochaber upbringing – that their music and stories spring. They will be joined by special guest Rory Matheson on piano also! \n“Innes and Henderson bring a rare chemistry to their collaboration – effortlessly weaving their songs and tunes with heart and soul from their Highland heritage to captivating effect.” BBC Radio Scotland \nThey will be supported by local fiddle and guitar duo Ruairidh Mackay & Megan MacKay

SUMMARY:Cathedral | Sean Kelly - Overseas Volunteer Orthopaedic Surgeon
DESCRIPTION:After 35 years as a local public sector NHS Orthopaedic surgeon\, Sean retired two years ago from his Highland clinical practice. Since that time\, he has linked with Scottish colleagues and local Zambian surgeons to work with a pro bono Orthopaedic charity based in Zambia called Flyspec \nThere is a huge unmet need for Orthopaedic treatments in Zambia. This is particularly important for ensuring surgical care is accessible in remote & rural communities. Access is often difficult and facilitated by small\, fixed-wing aircraft\, thus enabling vital life-changing operations to be available to those patients living outside the capital city\, Lusaka. \nThe original pioneering vision of the charity has flourished and survived the test of time despite the austere environmental and economic challenges. Recurrent emphasis on the need for local surgical leadership and the passing on of practical knowledge to local surgeons has been fundamental to that mission. \nJoin Sean at the Dornoch Cathedral to hear more of his life and work with the Flyspec.
